Guiding Principles

Our strategic planning process is built on the belief that the journey of creating the plan is as important as the plan itself

  • Develops a 3- to 5-year guiding document with measurable annual goals.
  • Incorporates a Portrait of a Graduate, if desired.
  • Involves broad stakeholder collaboration including students.
  • Results in a Board-approved plan grounded in your district’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Includes implementation consulting as a standard component.

The Five-Phase Process

We meet with district leadership to define the scope, identify stakeholders, establish a calendar, and outline community engagement steps.

We review key quantitative and qualitative data, conduct a SWOT analysis, and assess any existing strategic plan.

A 30- to 50-member stakeholder group—including students—collaborates to craft mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
If applicable, Portrait of a Graduate work is integrated here.
Students ultimately present the draft plan to the Board of Education.

The deliverable includes:

  • Mission: Why do we exist?

  • Vision: What do we want to become?

  • Values: What do we believe in?

  • Goals: What do we aim to accomplish?

  • Portrait of a Graduate (optional)

We help districts:

  • Assign implementation leaders

  • Build action plans and timelines

  • Establish monitoring strategies

  • Schedule regular Board updates
